MEDAN - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Medan City said, as many as 56 urban villages in 14 sub-districts were affected by flooding and poor drainage management in this area.

"In addition, as a result of the current flood, 4,306 family heads were evacuated to the village head office, schools and places of worship," said Medan City BPBD Head, M Husni, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 2.

The Medan City Government together with non-departmental government agencies, he continued, have established evacuation posts to save flood-affected residents due to their houses being submerged in water.

As previously reported, the rain that fell in the upstream of the river in Karo Regency and Deli Serdang Regency on Sunday (27/2) to Monday (28/2), caused floods downstream of the river in Medan City.

"We have also opened a master evacuation post in collaboration with related OPDs and communities, such as Tagana, Kogana, Skin and others," he explained.

"A total of 20 evacuation locations have been carried out. During the flood, we have evacuated as many as 415 residents. And we have placed them in the shelter locations that have been prepared," said Husni.

In addition, he continued, the Medan City Government added a disaster management post in collaboration with related OPDs, including the Social Service opening a public kitchen and the Health Service providing health services.

"In order to facilitate the evacuation process, we have also established 16 evacuation posts spread across 14 flood-affected sub-districts. We carry out the distribution of aid collectively," explained Husni.
