Strong Winds And High Waves Potential To Occur In Palu Bay, BMKG Urges Fishermen Not To Go To Sea

PALU - The Palu Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates that for a week some parts of Central Sulawesi have the potential to experience strong winds that will affect wave height, especially in the waters of Palu Bay.

The head of the BMKG for the Palu Meteorological Station, Nur Alim, said that the potential for strong winds was predicted to occur in the afternoon and evening, which would have an impact on sea wave heights above 1.5 meters. "Our appeal is for traditional fishermen not to go to sea in the late afternoon," he said in Palu, Antara, Tuesday, March 1.

Nur Alim explained, the next week the rainfall will be normal after the la nina phenomenon ends in February 2022. "The problem is that in this normal process it is usually accompanied by relatively stronger winds," he explained.

In addition to having an impact on the waters of Palu Bay, the potential for strong winds is also predicted to hit the Sigi Regency area.

"In land areas the impact is not so significant when compared to the sea," said Nur Alim.

Meanwhile, the potential for rain will still occur in some areas in Central Sulawesi with light to moderate intensity occurring in the afternoon to evening.

Regarding this weather forecast, the public is asked to remain vigilant of natural disasters, floods in river areas and landslides in mountainous areas.

"It's not heavy but it has been raining for a long time, so we are advised to reduce activities at night, especially when traveling outside the city is quite dangerous," he explained.

After the La Nina phenomenon that occurred from November 2021 to February 2022, the extreme weather ended and the temperature in Palu City was also predicted to return to normal.

"The moment of the lowest temperature in an area is normal, it can happen but not always," said Nur Alim.
