Supporting The G20 Summit With Green Energy, PLN Builds 36 Rooftop Solar Power Plants In Bali

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has prepared 36 rooftop photovoltaic solar power plants (PLTS) locations in Bali with a total capacity of 869 kilowattpeak (kWp). The existence of this infrastructure is to support the G20 Summit.

In addition to building rooftop PLTS, PLN has also prepared Hybrid PLTS in Nusa Penida as well as 60 Ultra-Fast Charging General Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) units, 21 Fast Charging SPKLU units, and 150 Home Charging units to support the G20 Summit.

During a working visit to monitor the readiness for the implementation of the G20 Summit, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that PLN's support was very important in organizing the G20 Summit later.

In addition to rooftop PLTS, PLN is expected to prepare a floating PLTS showcase located at the Tukad Badung estuary with a minimum capacity of 1 MWp, so that the Balinese and the world can witness firsthand the transition of Indonesia's energy to the era of new and renewable energy (EBT).

"I have ordered PLN to take part in supporting the construction of solar panels that are able to facilitate the mangrove seeding process, namely from the seawater pumping process, to watering and draining seawater," Luhut said in a written statement quoted on Sunday, February 27.

PLN's Java Madura and Bali Regional Business Director, Haryanto WS ensures PLN's readiness to accelerate the development of various supporting infrastructures, especially those based on EBT.

Haryanto explained, there are 3 main concentrations of PLN in preparing electricity supply for the current G20 Summit, including photovoltaic installation on 35 rooftops owned by PLN and 1 building owned by PT Indonesia Power. The construction is targeted to be completed in July 2022.

"We are currently preparing roofs on buildings owned by PLN with photovoltaic installation, namely technology that is able to convert solar radiation or light energy into electrical energy, so as to increase the use of EBT which supports the energy transition as the main issue brought up at the G20 Summit," said Haryanto.

Next is the construction of PLTS Hybrid in Nusa Penida, the groundbreaking of this project which was carried out on Friday, February 18, will be able to contribute to electricity supply with a capacity of 3.5 MW.

"The addition of this power plant is an anticipatory step in dealing with the surge in electricity demand which is estimated to increase by 20 percent ahead of the G20 Summit," he said.
