GARUT - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) presented three witnesses in the trial of the treason case with three defendants who claimed to be generals of the Indonesian Islamic State (NII) at the Garut District Court, West Java today.

"Four witnesses were invited, only three were able to attend because the other one is in isoman (self-isolation) with COVID-19," said the Public Prosecutor and Head of the Garut District Attorney's Office, Neva Sari Susanti, during a further hearing on the witness agenda at the Garut District Court, Antara, Thursday, February 24. .

The three witnesses presented in the treason case were the Pasirwangi police chief AKP Abusono, the Pasirwangi sub-district head Saeful, and a representative from the Garut National and Political Unity Agency, Febi Febriyanto.

They were presented to testify as witnesses in the treason case with three defendants, namely Ujer January (50), Jajang Koswara (50), and Sodikin (48), a resident of Pasirwangi Sub-district who was being prosecuted for making a video calling for treason and admitting himself as an NII General and then distributing it. on social media.

The witness in the trial admitted that he knew about the video that was made by three residents who were followers of NII, then legal proceedings were carried out against them.

The prosecutor plans to present another witness who will strengthen the case of alleged treason by the three residents who claim to be generals of the NII, because the actions of these citizens are considered dangerous for the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. "We will try later that these witnesses can support our evidence," said Neva.

During the trial, the judge who also served as Chair of the Garut District Court, Harris Tewa, was concerned because the witnesses presented only knew about the distribution of videos on YouTube, while the three defendants did not know him.

Moreover, the witnesses who attended were government officials from the police, the sub-district head, and also the National Unity and Political Agency of Garut Regency, which should take steps to anticipate and develop if there are residents suspected of deviating.

The judge also asked the sub-district head who was present as a witness to check the condition of the defendant's family, then the community around the defendant's house, and also take preventive steps so that the deviant understanding does not continue to occur.

"Ask the village head to check the condition of the area," said Hakim.

According to him, if irregularities that occur in the community continue to occur, they are worried that they will continue to spread which in the end similar legal problems will occur again and be tried again in the Garut District Court.

"This is just a time bomb problem, please work with your heart, ask for it to be resolved," said the judge to the witness.

The defendant's legal adviser, Ega Gunawan, stated that his party was trying to provide legal rights and freedom for the three defendants related to the case alleged to be treason.

Responding to the witnesses who were presented at the trial, he said, that the witness only explained that he knew about the distribution of the video, but that there was no attempt to evaluate and resolve the issue thoroughly.

The prosecutor's plan, he said, would present another witness, however, his party will also prepare witnesses who are expected to lighten the charges against the three defendants.

"When the prosecutors also present the next witnesses, we will continue to defend. We also present favorable witnesses to lighten," he said.

The trial, which lasted almost four hours or ended at 14.00 WIB, will be resumed on the agenda of the next trial, Friday, March 4, 2022 with the agenda of still examining witnesses.
