BANDA ACEH - Conservation officers found a carcass of a baby elephant in a river in the Gampong Cot Seutui area, Mila District, Pidie District, Aceh.

According to the Head of the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), Agus Arianto, the carcass of the baby elephant was found by members of the Mila Conservation Response Unit Team.

He said it was possible that the baby elephant had died after birth because the placenta was found near the elephant's carcass, which had no scars on its body.

"At the scene of the incident, no suspicious objects were found that could have caused the death of the wild baby elephant," Agus said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 23.

According to him, officers had buried the baby elephant's carcass to prevent the spread of the disease.

Agus said Sumatran elephants are protected by law. He appealed to residents to support efforts to preserve the large mammal.
