JAKARTA - The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, was pleased to learn that the operation to separate children from conjoined twins or attached to the chest, Anaya Rizka Ramadhani and Inaya Rizka Ramadhani (Anaya-Inaya) from East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, was successful.

"Anaya and Inaya are the 114th conjoined twins who were successfully separated by RSUD Dr Soetomo," said Khofifah while looking at Anaya-Inaya's condition after the separation at Dr Soetomo Hospital in Surabaya, Thursday afternoon, February 17, as reported by Antara.

When he arrived at the hospital, Governor Khofifah headed for the integrated surgery center and greeted Husniati and Muhammad Jupri, Anaya-Inaya's parents.

"Hopefully all of Anaya and Inaya's recovery process goes smoothly, ladies and gentlemen, you must continue to be enthusiastic," said Khofifah to the baby's parents.

Anaya and Inaya were successfully separated in the process of separating conjoined twins which was held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

The process until Anaya and Inaya were separated had begun in 2019, when their baby was only four months old, they had consulted with the team of doctors at RSUD Dr Soetomo.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the separation operation was finally carried out in 2022.

The Anaya-Inaya separation operation led by Dr Adria Hariastawa SpBA was a success and took about 8 hours 30 minutes.

There are as many as 50 team doctors who are members of the Anaya-Inaya separation.

A number of doctors involved include pediatric surgeons, cardiac surgeons, thoracic and cardiovascular heart surgeons, and plastic surgeons.

The conjoined twins were of the Xypho-Omphalogpagus type (there was a union in the xyphoid and omphalo/navel area), and the patient was referred from RSUD dr. R. Soedjono Selong – East Lombok.

Currently, Anaya-Inaya is in a stable condition after undergoing surgery, although previously she had used a respirator.

However, Wednesday (16/2) morning the device was removed and now both Anaya-Inaya babies have been removed from the device because their breathing has completely stabilized.

After 2x24 hours, both of them are stable and currently only recovering from their separation wounds, and one of them is scheduled to be transferred to the regular treatment room tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Governor Khofifah also expressed his pride that RSUD Dr Soetomo could provide the best service, even for patients from outside the region.

Even now, he continued, RSUD Dr Soetomo also has a mentoring program for hospitals that are considered capable in terms of capacity and equipment to be able to serve conjoined twin separation surgery procedures.
