JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the Urban Forum 20 (U20) encourages stakeholders in the G20 to jointly provide equal access to vaccines considering the COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet.

"U20 appeals to the Presidency, all 'Engagement Groups, Working Groups' and G20 stakeholders to collaborate in order to provide equitable access to vaccines," said Anies through the Instagram account @aniesbaswedan quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 17.

Anies is the U20 Co-Chair with West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil whose meeting is scheduled to take place in August 2022.

In addition to vaccines, U20 also encourages the acceleration of climate action and ensures the transition to a zero-carbon economy to provide maximum positive impact, especially for people who are classified as vulnerable and marginalized, especially in urban areas.

"Jakarta is committed to pushing the transition towards 'net zero emission' by strengthening the mass transportation system as the backbone for the movement of the citizens of Jakarta," he said.

On the other hand, Anies said, inequality between countries is getting smaller, but inequality within countries and cities tends to widen.

"This is a problem that must be resolved together with other world city regional leaders in the upcoming U20 Forum," he said.

Jakarta will host a meeting of governors, mayors and regional leaders in G20 or Urban 20 member countries as part of the agenda for supporting the G20 summit in Bali, October 2022.

The meeting of world city leaders will discuss urban challenges after the pandemic that cities of the world must face, in line with the theme of the Indonesian G20 Presidency, "Recover Together, Recover Stronger".
