SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi explained the clean city program implemented in the City of Heroes, East Java, when he was a speaker in a National webinar held by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).

The webinar which was attended by all regents and mayors throughout Indonesia with the theme "Ministry of Home Affairs Encouraging Local Governments to Create a Clean City", Mayor Eri shared his experience about the clean city program he carried out in the city of Surabaya.

"The clean city program must be carried out in a complex manner, it cannot be done only from one side. Therefore, the Surabaya City Government has been committed to managing land use from the start, starting from green open spaces (RTH) to paying attention to the land cover quality index," said Eri Cahyadi in his presentation was reported by Antara, Tuesday, February 15.

According to him, the green open space in Surabaya includes city parks, forest parks, green lanes, and parks, as well as mangrove conservation areas. RTH is increasing every year. In fact, for the land cover quality index (IKTL), according to the calculation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation 27 of 2021, the city of Surabaya also continues to rise," said Eri Cahyadi.

In addition to land use, Eri Cahyadi also explained, the municipal government also pays attention to water quality by making communal and household Wastewater Management Installations (IPAL). Until now, the city government has built WWTPs in 60 locations, so it is hoped that the surrounding residents can imitate the WWTP construction.

Meanwhile, the most important thing in the clean city program, said Eri, is waste. Currently, the city of Surabaya produces around 1,674.70 tons of waste per day. The waste is then sorted, collected, transported, processed, and the final process of the waste is successfully converted into electricity.

"Now our PLTSa can produce 11 megawatts," he said.

In waste management, Mayor Eri Cahyadi emphasized that the participation of the people of Surabaya is very important to reduce waste. In fact, until now the Surabaya City Government has also continued to encourage people to realize that waste can generate money and be profitable.

With the involvement of the community, Eri ensured that the city government slowly managed to deal with waste in Surabaya.

"In the end, I am also very grateful because the Environmental Quality Index in the City of Surabaya has increased, if in 2020 it was at 60.96, it turns out that in 2021 it rose to 67.78," he said.
