JAKARTA - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) handed over compensation of IDR 3.4 billion for 22 victims of past terrorism (KTML) who live in Central Java (Central Java) and surrounding areas earlier this year.

The handover of compensation with an exact nominal value of IDR 3,425,000,000 was carried out by the Head of LPSK Hasto Atmojo Suroyo together with the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo at the Central Java Provincial Government Office, Wednesday, February 9.

"These 22 people are part of the 357 KTML that have been identified by LPSK and BNPT and have been declared eligible to receive compensation," Hasto said as quoted by Antara.

In general, there were 357 victims from 57 past terrorism incidents spread across 19 provinces throughout Indonesia as well as foreigners and Indonesian citizens living in the United States, Germany, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands.

Specifically for the 22 victims whose compensation was handed over this time, they were direct victims or the heirs of the deceased victims.

They were two victims of serious injuries from the shooting incident of Polri members in Poso and the incident at the Bethel Gospel Sepuh Church (GBIS) Solo, seven moderately injured victims from the incident at GBIS Solo, and six minor injuries from the same incident.

This includes the seven heirs of the victims who died in the Bali Bombing II, the Australian Embassy, JW Marriot, the shooting at the Prembun Kebumen Police Headquarters, the shooting at the Kentengrejo Purworejo Police, and the Bukit Sampoddo Cafe bombing, Palopo.

"The total compensation value for the 355 victims amounted to IDR 59,220,000,000 which has been paid. As for the other two people, it will be completed in early 2022," said Hasto.

According to him, the submission of compensation is an implementation of Law Number 5 of 2018 and Government Regulation Number 35 of 2020. Since the law was born, all victims of terrorism are the responsibility of the state.

He explained that Law Number 5 of 2018 is a progressive regulation and shows siding with the victims of terrorism.

Furthermore, one of the special things about the law is the emergence of legal breakthroughs that open up opportunities for victims of past terrorism to get compensation without going through court.

In line with that, the Deputy Chair of LPSK Susilaningtias hopes that the compensation paid can be used to restore the socio-economic life of the victims.

In the future, LPSK will continue to build synergies with relevant ministries and institutions including the Central Java Provincial Government so that victims who receive compensation are provided with assistance through various debriefing activities and entrepreneurship training.

"Compensation is expected to be used wisely and not consumptively," he said.

LPSK is also ready to work with local governments to build the program (entrepreneurial training and debriefing). In addition, Susi also gave high appreciation to the Indonesian Forensic Doctors Association (PDFI), which for the past two years together with LPSK conducted medical assessments to determine the degree of injury suffered by the victims as a basis for determining the compensation value.

The degree of injury, said Susi, consisted of minor injuries worth IDR 75 million, moderate injuries to IDR 115 million, and serious injuries to IDR 210 million. Meanwhile, the heirs of the deceased victims amounted to IDR 250 million.

"This value is in accordance with the principle permit issued by the Ministry of Finance for victims of past terrorism," he also said.
