SEMARANG - Hundreds of Indonesian migrant workers from Central Java Province are undergoing quarantine to ensure they are free from COVID-19 before returning to their respective hometowns after working abroad.

"In the period from January 1, 2022, to February 6, 2022, there have been 606 migrant workers who returned from abroad and now there are 564 people who have completed the quarantine period", said Head of the Manpower and Transmigration Office of Central Java Province, Sakina Rosellasari, in Semarang, quoted by Antara on Monday, February 7th.

She said the quarantine was part of a strict form of screening to anticipate COVID-19.

"Migrant workers from Central Java enter through two embarkations, namely Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Juanda Airport Surabaya. Soekarno-Hatta already has SOPs seen from which country to quarantine, the length of quarantine is according to the country of origin", she said.

With this condition, it is hoped that the health condition of the migrant workers can be primed before entering the Central Java region because this procedure is considered safer than the process carried out in 2020.

"God willing, it is safer than last year, if that year there were still flights from Singapore to Ahmad Yani Airport, then ships from Pontianak via Tanjung Emas Port. Next, quarantine to Regional Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMD). Now through Soekarno Hatta and Juanda Airports, enter Central Java It's safe, because it was checked by PCR and quarantine first and there is a travel document", she said.

Most of the migrant workers came from the destination countries for migrant workers, such as Malaysia (199 people), Hong Kong (139 people), Singapore (94 people), Taiwan (81 people), and South Korea (42 people).

The destinations of the migrant workers' villages from Central Java were to the Regencies of Cilacap, Brebes, Kendal, Kebumen, and Banyumas.
