AC Milan Finally Fires Paulo Fonseca, Sergio Conceicao Enters

JAKARTA - AC Milan finally confirmed the sacking of Paulo Fonseca on Monday, December 30, 2024, following a 1-1 draw against AS Roma this morning.

The 52-year-old coach had announced his departure before the club did as he left the San Siro stadium.

"Yes, that's right. I left. That's how life is. I did everything I could," Fonseca told reporters as she lowered her car window.

"AC Milan announced that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team."

"The club expresses its gratitude to Paulo for his extraordinary professionalism and wishes him all the best in the future," AC Milan said in a statement.

Fonseca was recruited in June 2024 and only recorded 12 wins in 24 matches in all competitions.

Milan are in eighth position in Serie A 2024/2025, behind leaders Atalanta and Napoli with a difference of 14 points. The record is far worse than the second position achieved under Stefano Pioli last season.

They have performed better in the Champions League recently after winning four consecutive wins, including a 3-1 win at Real Madrid headquarters.

They are in 12th position in the 2024/2025 Champions League standings and are on the right track to qualify for the knockout stages.

AC Milan will then be handled by Sergio Conceicao. The announcement of the arrival of the Portuguese coach was only carried out half an hour ago when this news was published via the club's official Instagram.

"Sergio Conceicao is AC Milan's new head coach. He joined the Rossoneri until June 30, 2026," AC Milan wrote on Instagram.

Conceicao, who played in Serie A with Lazio, Parma, and Inter Milan, coached Porto for six seasons before resigning in June 2024.

Milan will next play against Juventus in the Italian Supercoppa semifinals in Saudi Arabia, January 4, 2025.
