17,865 Kilometers Toll Road Targeted To Build By 2040
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) targets the construction of a 17,865.43 kilometer (km) expressway in the 2025-2040 period.
The Director General of Highways at the Ministry of Public Works, Rachman Arief Dienaputra, explained that the massive toll road construction target was carried out to increase connectivity in the country. In particular, to support food and energy security.
"Then we will also build a fairly massive toll road development plan in 2025-2040, yes, (overall 17,865.43 km) and ensure the construction of toll exit," he said at the National Seminar on Road Day 2024 at the Ministry of Public Works office, Jakarta, Thursday, December 19.
The reason, said Rachman Arief, is that currently there are toll exites that are less connected to food production areas to industrial areas. So, in the future, when carrying out the construction of the new toll road, his party will conduct a more detailed assessment of the toll exit position.
The toll exit at 17,865 km of the new toll road will be built to support Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Industrial Estates (KIs) to a number of other strategic areas.
Based on the data presented, 5 of the 6 major islands in Indonesia have been connected toll roads. Among them, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Sulawesi and Bali islands.
