RIBridges System Hacked, Rhode Island Residents Asked To Stay Alert

JAKARTA - The Governor of Rhode Island, Dan McKee, said that hundreds of thousands of people's data may be affected by cyber attacks that attack the RIBridges system, the state's state's online social service portal.

In a press conference held on Friday, December 13, McKee revealed details about the attack, in which security threats were first detected on December 5 by tech vendor Deloitte, which manages the RIBridges system.

When found, it is not clear whether any sensitive data was stolen or not. However, on December 10, Deloitte confirmed that a hacker had accessed the data through a screenshot of the file folder sent to them.

Then on December 13, Deloitte confirmed that there is a high possibility that cybercriminals have obtained files containing personal information from RIBridges. Thus, the State decided to deactivate the system.

"As far as we are concerned, anyone who has received or submitted an application for health services and/or programs or health benefits and humanitarian services could be affected by this leak," the governor wrote in his official statement.

While the analysis is still ongoing, Deloitte indicated that the information involved may include names, addresses, date of birth, Social Security numbers, and certain banking information, although it is still in the assessment stage.
