BWF World Tour Finals 2024: Febriana/Amallia Overcome Japan's Representatives

JAKARTA - Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi's women's doubles pair successfully won the second match of the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals group stage.

They are overcoming the Japanese pair, Rin Iwanaga/Kie Nakanishi, two straight games 21-15 and 21-12 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, China, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, evening WIB.

"Alhamdulillah, I am very happy to be able to win the first victory in the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals. In addition, in terms of games, it is also much better than yesterday," said Amalia.

Previously in the first match of Group B which took place yesterday (11 December 2024), Febriana/Amallia were forced to admit the superiority of the South Korean representative, Baek Ha-na/Lee So-hee.

This is Febriana/Amallia's second straight victory over Iwanaga/Nakanishi. Previously at the Thailand Open in May 2024, Febriana/Amallia also won two straight games.

This result made the two pairs share a 2-2 win-loss record. The Japanese pair previously came out victorious in their first two clashes.

Febriana/Amallia will face a much tougher test in the last match tomorrow (13 December 2024). The reason is, they will meet the gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics from China, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan.

On paper, Febriana/Amallia have a bad record against the couple. Of the five previous clashes, they were recorded as always losing.

"Tomorrow against Chen/Jia, we want to be reckless, play optimally, play well, the results will be later," said Amalia, who together with Febriana won the 2024 China Taipei Open.

The last clash between Febriana/Amallia and Chen/Jia occurred at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. At that time, Febriana/Amallia were forced to lose two games like the previous four meetings.
