Gen Z Often Turns On The Do Not Disstructed Feature On Mobile, Why?

JAKARTA - Generation Z or Gen Z is very close to the digital era, where smartphones and the internet are an inseparable part of everyday life. However, recently in using cell phones, Gen Z is known to have started to practice activating the Do Not Disturb (DnD) feature.

DnD is a feature designed to limit notifications or notifications on mobile phones, so users can carry out their activities without interruption. This DnD feature is activated by Gen Z because of their concern about phone calls.

Reporting from Yahoo Tech, on Monday, December 9, 2024, according to Max Burns, a political strategic from New York, the DnD feature is Gen Z's choice to reduce anxiety that arises when receiving phone calls.

"Today I learned that some Gen Z kids keep their phones in Do Not Disturb 24-7 mode so they don't have to face anxiety because they receive phone calls," said Max Burns.

Max Burns also said that he had discussed with his co-workers, including Gen Z, regarding this matter. They admitted that unexpected phone calls did cause anxiety for them.

"I spoke with two colleagues Gen Z about Do Not Disturb, and they mentioned that unexpected phone calls trigger anxiety," he added.

A study conducted by CommBank and telecommunications service provider More in 2023 also said the same thing. It was found that 90 percent of Gen Z were anxious about talking on the phone, so they decided to activate the DnD feature.

However, not all Gen Z mobile users feel anxiety is the main reason for activating the DnD feature. There are also those who only feel that phone calls are troublesome and prefer to communicate via text messages.

Meanwhile, Gen Z's habit of activating the DnD feature illustrates their need to manage anxiety and reduce disruption to a fast digital era. It is also important for Gen Z to find balance so that communication with those closest to you is maintained.
