YOGYAKARTA - The President's special staff is one of the important positions that has an important role to play in carrying out certain tasks. The establishment of the Presidential special staff position is regulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres). According to Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 137 of 2024 Chapter III Article 33, special staff was formed to support the smooth implementation of the president's duties.

The number of special staff of the President reaches a maximum of 15 people, including the Presidential Personal Secretary. Staff can come from civil servants (PNS) or other individuals who have won the trust of the president.

If a special staff member comes from the civil servant, TNI, or Polri, they will still get a salary as a State Civil Apparatus (ASN). However, the person concerned must be temporarily dismissed from his organic position while being a staff member without losing the status of ASN.

A special ASN staff member is also entitled to a higher level of promotion in accordance with the applicable rank limit. Natinya ASN will return to actively work in the government or agency after the term of assignment as staff ends.

A special staff member of the President works directly under the orders of the President. Staff will carry out certain tasks beyond the scope provided by the Ministry or government agencies. The following is the task and function of the President's special staff:

Article 41 explains that the special staff term lasts during the president's leadership, which is five years. In other words, the special staff's tenure will end along with the end of the presidential term.

During President Prabowo's administration which began in 2024, the period will be completed in 2029. After the term of office ends, special staff will not receive pensions or severance pay.

During his duties, special staff will be assisted by assistants taken from Primary High Leadership officials or echelon IIA structural positions. Based on the rules, the number of assistants who can support the duties of special staff is a maximum of five people.

Regulations regarding salaries received by special staff are regulated in Article 40, which states that the financial rights and facilities granted to special staff are as high as the middle leadership positions or structural positions of echelon IA.

According to Presidential Decree No. 80 of 2015, the highest amount of salary received by special staff is IDR 36,500,000. This amount is the financial rights given by the state every month to the special staff of the president.
