Application For An Increase In UMK Up To 14 Percent, Cianjur Is Still The Lowest From Other Cities
CIANJUR - The Cianjur Regency Government, West Java, proposed an increase in the Cianjur Regency Minimum Wage (UMK) in 2024 by 14 percent or an increase to Rp3,298,000 according to the wishes of workers to be submitted to the West Java Provincial Government.
Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman in Cianjur said the increase in the UMK was based on a joint study between workers, labor organizations, entrepreneurs and the Cianjur Regency Government, adjusted to the price of basic necessities that had experienced an increase.
"The Cianjur UMK in 2023, amounting to Rp2,893,229 is considered very low compared to other regencies/cities in Indonesia, so the Cianjur Regency Government proposes an increase of 14 percent based on purchasing power calculations, fluctuations in the prices of basic necessities, and decent living standards," he said.
He hopes that the application for an increase can be approved by the West Java Provincial Government because the UMK in Cianjur is still considered low compared to other regencies/cities, while entrepreneurs are believed to be able and not be burdened because the Cianjur UMK is still low.
The increase in the UMK that has been submitted is just waiting for a decision from the West Java Provincial Government in the hope that it will not change or decrease because workers in Cianjur must get their rights in order to meet the standard of decent living.
"We hope that the application for an increase is approved and not reduced due to various considerations. We are just waiting for an answer from the West Java Provincial Government because the letter has been sent and we will continue to monitor it," he said.
The head of the Cianjur Regency National Workers Union, Hendra Malik, said that the application for an increase in Cianjur UMK requested by workers was 15 percent, but the results of the joint meeting with the Cianjur Regency Government submitted 14 percent or Rp. 3,298,000 were still considered low.

"Although it was proposed an increase of 14 percent, Cianjur's UMK is still low compared to other regencies/cities, for example compared to Sukabumi Regency, it is still far away. However, we hope that the Cianjur Regency Government will guard it until it is determined that it will no longer be reduced," he said.
His party, said Hendra, would continue to oversee the application for an increase in the UMK until it was approved by the West Java Provincial Government and did not reduce it due to various considerations including the prices of basic necessities and oil and gas fuels which had increased long ago.
"We will continue to guard until the workers' wishes in Cianjur are met because when they rise, the UMK in Cianjur is still the lowest compared to other areas," he said.
