KAI Daop 1 Ordered Dozens Of Illegal Buildings In Karawang Station Area

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta together with the Karawang Regency Government, West Java, have disciplined 65 illegal buildings in the Karawang Station area, which are widely used for community disease activities, which are troubling local residents.

"The illegal buildings on KAI land were brought under control by involving as many as 200 joint personnel consisting of PT KAI Daop 1, TNI, and the National Police in the Karawang Regency, Social Service, DLH, and the West Karawang District Muspika ranks," said DeputyII Daop 1 Jakarta who is also the Head of the Ali Afandi Control Team reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 21.

Control is carried out on the land of PT KAI with Certificates Number 159, 548, 2524, 2525, and 2526 of 2016 with a total area of 226,206 square meters (m2).

"There are about 65 illegal buildings that will be put under control, where previously approaches and socialization have been carried out. However, so far there has been no follow-up by the owner of illegal buildings," said Ali.

He explained that previously a coordination meeting had been held between the management of PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta and the muspida and muspika and agreed to provide a warning letter (SP) ranging from SP 1 to SP 3 until finally a coordination meeting was held again on Thursday (16/11/2023) at the Hall of the Karawang Regency Environmental Service Office.

At that time, the coordination meeting was chaired directly by the Head of the Karawang Regency Environment Agency, Wawan Setiawan and attended by representatives of KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, representatives of muspida and muspika, social services, and local urban villages. The results of the coordination meeting agreement, namely setting a date for the enforcement on Tuesday (11/11/2023) starting at 09.00 WIB until it is finished.

On Monday (20/11/2023), another socialization of residents of illegal buildings has also been carried out so that they can heed what has been ordered and can demolish the building which stands on PT KAI's land. Ali said that some of the buildings had been demolished by illegal building owners.

"The land that is disciplined is 16,900 m2, the majority of the illegal buildings that are disciplined are non-permanent buildings and stand without permits or illegal. Previously, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta had coordinated with the regions and socialized together with residents of illegal buildings to vacate the location," he said.

For this reason, PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta appealed to the entire community to obey existing regulations and not to construct buildings illegally on PT KAI's land. Meanwhile, the Law (UU) which regulates the safety of train travel is contained in Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways.

Article 178 is called "Everyone is prohibited from building buildings, building walls, fences, embankments, other buildings, planting high types of trees or placing goods on railroad lines that can interfere with free views and endanger the safety of train travel".

Then, Article 181 paragraph (1) "That everyone is prohibited from being in the good space of the railway line; dragging, moving, placing or moving goods on the rail or crossing the railroad line or using the railway line for other purposes, other than for rail transportation".

Meanwhile, violations of Article 181 paragraph (1) in the form of imprisonment for a maximum of 3 months or a maximum fine of Rp. 15,000,000 as stated in Article 199 of Law Number 23 of 2007.

KAI Daop 1 Jakarta also appealed to the public to report any suspicious and dangerous activities around the rail line by contacting officers at the nearest station or contact center121 (021) 121, customer service cs@kai.id, and social media @kai121_@rapikita.

"PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta will continue to collaborate with the regions and related agencies to make efforts to realize the safety of train travel and protect the environment around the clean and safe rail line," said Ali.
