City Government Asked DPRD To Fix Medan Zoo Due To Tiger Death
Member of Commission III of the Medan City DPRD, Irwansyah, asked the city government to immediately fix Medan Zoo due to the death of a Sumatran tiger named Erha, 11 years old.
"The death of a tiger is proof of the management of the Medan Zoo. We ask the Medan City Government through Perumda Pembangunan to fix the management of the Medan Zoo," said Irwansyah as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, November 10.
This is because this legislator regrets the performance of Perumda Pembangunan because it has not been able to care for protected animals according to Law No. 5/1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems.
In addition, the politician admitted that the current condition of Medan Zoo is very concerning, including the appearance of dirty and lack of facilities resulting in lower visitors' interest.
Medan Zoo data in 2022 has 76 units of cages and 255 animals consisting of 163 aves, 60 mammals and 32 reptiles on 10 hectares of a total area of 30 hectares.
A Sumatran tiger was found dead in its cage due to illness by Medan Zoo officers in Medan, Monday (6/11), so there were only 12 tigers consisting of five Sumatran tigers and seven Bengal tigers.
"If we go to Medan Zoo, the majority of the contents of the cage are poultry with dirty and odor conditions. The most interesting thing is only tigers because the population is threatened with extinction," said Irwansyah.

Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution said his party had received information that a Sumatran tiger at Medan Zoo died due to illness earlier this week.
"Medan Zoo is related to tigers, yesterday I received information. That's why we continue to try to make management better," he explained.
His party admitted that there were problems in the management of the zoo in Medan City, which is located on Jalan Bunga Rampai IV, Simalingkar B Village, Medan Tuntungan District.
"There is a slight problem with how to cooperate. Yesterday we also tried with Raffi (Ahmad) and Taman Safari to make the management more correct," said Bobby.
The mayor also continues to encourage RANS Entertainment to realize investment plans in developing a 30 hectare Medan Zoo area.
"So far, we haven't said it's just a matter of time. Indeed, we continue to encourage Raffi to keep his promise this year to be built," he said.
