Deputy Minister Of Home Affairs Guards The Acceleration Of Papuan Development
JAYAPURA - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) John Wempi Wetipo will continue to oversee the acceleration of development in Papua but also take responsibility in the administration of government and the implementation of elections in 2024 in the area.
"Because there are several districts that have not allocated a budget for holding simultaneous elections in 2024," he said on the sidelines of workshops accelerating the construction of autonomy perspectives and new autonomous areas in Jayapura, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 24.
According to Wetipo, this will be the attention of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) so that the workshop held by the Jayapura City Government (Pemkot) is a very good idea in providing good information to indigenous Papuans.
"Because so far there is a lot of information that Indigenous Papuans (OAP) want to know for their rights but there has never been good socialization for the community," he said.
He explained that the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a letter to socialize Government Regulation (PP) Number 106 and PP Number 107 in which in the policy there were rights that had to be obtained by OAP.
"But it turns out that until now they have not received clear information, especially with the four New Autonomous Regions (DOB) in Papua," he said.
The existence of a four-DOB expansion in Papua should raise the dignity of OAP so that the expansion that has been carried out does not become an arena to commit a criminal act of corruption
"This should not happen so that it again impoverishes the people because the people will be prosperous, safe or not very determined by the regional head

Acting Mayor of Jayapura Frans Pekey said the policy from the central government to make the regions in Papua must be a space that must be known by all people in the area.
"So that in this workshop, it is hoped that the Papuan people can monitor and know the various policies and regulations issued by the central government," he said.
According to Pekey, talking about Papua, the first is of course the acceleration of development because it can unravel various problems in Papua
"Therefore, the government has provided a special policy by forming a new autonomous region, which is why we in this workshop invite all regional heads throughout Papua," he said.
