Hyundai Expands Connectivity Experience, Can Open Cars Using Any Brand Cellphone

Hyundai is expanding its new experiences around connectivity through Digital Key 2 to make it easier for users to open cars.

Previously, this South Korean brand applied this to several vehicle models, from Hyundai, Genesis to Kia, but the system was still limited.

Now, not only owners of iPhone and Samsung can apply Digital Key 2, any mobile phone brand can use it because it has been integrated into Google Pixel.

"We are the first in the automotive industry to offer a Digital Key 2 feature that Apple and Samsung owners can use," said Hyung Ki Ahn, Senior Vice President and Head of the Hyundai Motor Group Electronic Development Center, quoted from the Carscoops page, Tuesday, October 24.

For the work system, car owners do not need to use the key to open the car door, but only bring the phone closer to the near-door section and automatically open.

"Through an active collaboration with our partners in the smartphone industry, we will continue to improve customer experience and security around car connectivity," he added.

The Hyundai group said its vehicle owners can now manage Digital Key 2 through their manufacturer apps. It is said that they are also trying to expand their usefulness to other brand phones.

Currently Digital Key 2 is available to owners of Hyundai Grandeur, Genesis GV60 and G90, as well as Kia EV9. Going forward, this feature will be extended to more vehicles, and additional functionality can be added to old vehicles via over the air updates.

Later each cellphone must also be updated to the latest software version in order to use Digital Key 2.
