Minister Of Industry Pede Can Capai NZE Industrial Sector In 2050
JAKARTA - Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita set a target of Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in the Industrial sector by 2050.
Agus stated that the Ministry of Industry is actively carrying out improvements to carry out various strategic steps to achieve the NZE target.
"We want NZE's target in the industrial sector to be 10 years faster than the national NZE target. This requires good coordination with related ministries and institutions," Agus said in his direction at the 2023 Ministry of Industry Working Meeting with the theme Completion of the Industrial Sector Decarbonization Action Plan Towards the 2050 Net Zero Emissions (NZE) Target in Jakarta, Wednesday 11 October.
Agus added that there are at least five things that make decarbonization efforts a concern for Indonesia, namely the market needs for green products continue to increase along with consumers' green lifestyle awareness to use low-carbon products.
Then, there is a vulnerability due to climate change and disasters that result in crop failure and a water crisis that disrupts the supply of industrial raw materials.
In addition, there are regulations for Indonesia's export destination countries that require sustainable practices such as CBAM (Carbon Boarder Adjustment Mechanism) and EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation).
