After Mbak Ita's Fried Rice Competition, The Semarang City Government Holds A Waste Management Competition With A Total Prize Of IDR 189 Million

SEMARANG - Semarang City Government held a waste management competition entitled "Our Spice 2023" (Distortion Management in Our Environment) to encourage public concern in maintaining environmental cleanliness with prizes of hundreds of millions of rupiah.

"This competition is video-based. How to manage waste, both in schools, communities, markets, and so on," said Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 21.

This was conveyed by Ita, Hevearita's nickname, during the socialization of our 2023 Spice Competition at the Red Sports Center (GOR), Semarang.

According to him, the competition is an effort from sustainable waste management from upstream to downstream so that it can reduce the accumulation of waste in the final disposal site (TPA).

"If you don't manage waste from upstream to downstream, it means that the TPA will continue to accumulate (garbage). Like yesterday, the Jatibarang TPA fire had been a pile of passive waste since 2015," he said.

The competition initiated by the Semarang City Environment Agency is divided into four categories, namely the community, educational institutions, businesses/activities, and public facilities.

"Participants from the community category are RT and RW who are targeted to reach 10,595 RT participants from 1,525 RW. Educational institutions are schools," he said.

Educational institutions include equivalent elementary schools (SD) to equivalent high schools (SMA), including madrasas.

"There are also universities, not waste management, but innovations. How do these universities make innovations, which are mild, for example household-based waste management." he said.

Furthermore, business/activity categories include industrial, factory, office areas, both government and private, then public facilities categories that include markets, hospitals, and health centers.

"The total prize is Rp. 189 million. For the first winner it is approximately Rp. 20 million each," said Ita.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Semarang City DLH, Bambang Suranggono, explained that technically the competition consisted of four categories for waste management and one innovation, all of which deposited videos.

The video, he said, would be evaluated tiered to the city level, with an assessment by a jury team from an environmental expert who would go to the field for verification.

The holding of our Spice competition starts from September 25 to October 15, 2023, and the announcement of the winner will be made in November 2023.
