PLN Explores Application Of CCS Technology To Power Plants
JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) is aggressive in reducing carbon emissions through the application of Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) technology to power plants.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said PLN had prepared a short and long-term plan to reduce carbon emissions in realizing Net Zero Emissions 2060, one of which was by developing CCS technology.
PLN plays an important role in Indonesia's energy transition to clean energy. We have a comprehensive energy transition roadmap and are committed to running the roadmap to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner," Darmawan said, Friday, September 15.
Meanwhile, Director of Transmission and System Planning Evy Haryadi assessed that CCS development in Indonesia is starting to become more massive and is one of the strategies promoted by the government to reduce carbon emissions. PLN as an electric company also has the potential for the development of CCS.
"The total capacity of coal and gas-based PLN power plants that produce carbon and have the potential to be rehabilitated with carbon capture technology reaches 37.6 Gigawatts (GW). Where, with this potential, PLN can attract CCS business opportunities in the future," said Evy.

Currently, PLN is also aggressive in conducting studies on the implementation of CCS at several power plants owned by PLN. Collaborating with partners such as JERA, Korean Carbon, Inpex, Medco and GE PLN are trying to conduct studies on the implementation of CCS at PLTU and PLTGU owned by PLN.
"We are of course open to collaboration between technology and studies. Currently, we are conducting studies with various partners at 4 PLTU and 2 of our PLTGU," said Evy.
