Troubled Often, Ford Electric Car Sales Keep Running
JAKARTA - Ford was previously reported by VOI to have suffered a large loss of around US$ 270 million, or equivalent to Rp4.1 trillion. The reason is, this US manufacturer is listed as one of the brands that most often recall vehicles this year.
However, that bad image did not damage its sales. Ford Motor Company (Ford) managed to record impressive sales in the US during August.
Ford and Lincoln brands managed to record sales of 161,300 units during August, representing a 2 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Ford managed to sell 154,711 cars, while its subsidiary, Lincoln, hit about 6,589 units, marking an increase of 3.1 percent from the previous year. This is not only an achievement obtained from gasoline engines, but also from the electric vehicle segment (EV).
Reporting from InsideEVs on Wednesday, September 6, Ford managed to sell 6,940 units of battery electric vehicles (BEV), accounting for about 4.5 percent of total sales. This marks an 18 percent increase compared to the previous year.
More surprising, Ford's sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) have seen a significant increase since April, and there is a high probability that the manufacturer will set record sales in this segment by the end of 2023.
In detail, EV models such as Mustang Mach-E managed to record sales of 5,033 units, an increase of 61 percent from the previous year in the same period. Meanwhile, other models such as E-Transit also recorded an increase of 120 percent, with sales of 889 units.
However, unlike the two models, the sales of the F-150 Lightning have decreased. Despite successfully recording sales of 1,018 units, this decline reached 57 percent compared to the previous year.
During the first eight months of 2023, Ford managed to sell a total of 1,342,507 vehicles, with 38,929 of them battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This means that the BEV segment managed to account for about 3 percent of the total sales of this brand.
The sale of the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV actually decreased during the eight months, a decrease of 11 percent from the previous year, with total sales reaching 23.010 units.

Meanwhile, sales of the F-150 Lightning increased by 66 percent, reached 11.327 units, and sales of the E-Transit reached 4.592 units, an increase of 17 percent.
Unfortunately, these sales do not include a hybrid version, such as Escape PHEV. Ford has not provided any information regarding the sale of this electrification SUV.
Ford's move towards the realm of electrification is getting clearer. The company has invested billions of dollars in electric vehicle development and plans to offer at least 10 electric car models in Europe by 2025.
Ford CEO Jim Farley has revealed that the company plans to increase sales of the hybrid model following the success of Maverick and the F-150 electricity.
