US Vice President Kamala Harris Will Go To Jakarta, His Presence At The ASEAN Summit Increases Involvement In The Region
JAKARTA - United States (US) Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Yohannes Abraham said the visit of US Vice President Kamala Harris to Jakarta to attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit was to increase her country's involvement in the region.
"This visit is to continue the expansion of US involvement in ASEAN which has never happened before," Yohannes said in a special interview with ANTARA, Friday, September 1.
He said the visit was an opportunity for the US to reaffirm their commitment to ASEAN centrality.
The visit was also to develop efforts made by the US with ASEAN.
"What the Vice President will say is clear articulation, not only about how important ASEAN is to us, but also about our positive agenda and affirmation in this region, as well as matters and areas where we can work together more closely," he said.

The Vice President of the US, said Yohannes, will also talk about the importance of cooperation to ensure inclusive economic growth for the community and joint efforts to protect the environment.
In addition, Kamala will also talk about addressing health safety challenges and efforts to realize a vision for the region, which is consistent with ASEAN's Indo-Pacific strategy and centrality.
"So, the most important reason for his visit is as evidence and affirmation of our commitment to ASEAN centrality," said Yohannes.
