Anies Baswedan Talks At UI: Education Costs Must Be Cheap As Investment

JAKARTA - Anies presidential candidate Rasyid Baswedan will provide a solution related to the commercialization of education in universities whose costs have recently soared.

"The state must be present, the high cost of education must be changed cheaply and affordablely by the people of Indonesia," said Anies Baswedan when answering a question from the Chairman of BEM FISIP UI Muhammad Rafkario Affi who assessed that currently there is commercialization in universities as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 29.

Rafka said that higher education tuition fees are currently increasingly expensive. Many families complain that tuition fees are soaring.

Anies reminded university managers not to see students as just commercials that could result in higher education costs.

Anies, who had served as Minister of Education and Culture for the term of office on October 27, 2014, July 27, 2016, then revealed signs of long-standing commercialization of higher education.

In 1997, the Chancellor of Paramadina University for the 2007 '2015 period wrote a book on education commercialization.

Therefore, Anies asked education managers to develop knowledge so that they could produce quality graduates according to their scientific fields.

"National spending on education should not be considered as a cost. However, it is seen as an investment in the future so that students can continue their education," he said.

According to Anies, a cheap change in education must have policies at the central level.

"The costs borne by the government must be seen as part of the investment," said the alumnus of Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
