Getting To Know 5 Air Quality Index Categories

YOGYAKARTA The government has the category of air quality index to find out the level of air pollution which refers to the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU). The category was prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) as stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 14 of 2020 concerning the Air Pollution Standard Index.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry explained that the Air Pollution Standard Index or ISPU is a number that does not have a unit that describes the condition of ambient air quality in a location. This figure is also based on its impact on human health, aesthetic value, and other living things.

The preparation of the ISPU aims to facilitate the uniformity of Ambient air quality information to the public at certain locations and times, as well as to be taken into consideration in carrying out efforts to control air pollution, both by the central and regional governments.

The Air Pollution Standard Index is divided into five categories. Each is realized with a number with a level of danger of air quality with the health of living things.

ISPU is categorized as good if it has a value range of 1 to 50. This means that air quality is very good and does not have a negative effect on humans, animals, and plants.

ISPU is categorized as having a value range from 51 to 100. This means that air quality can be accepted for human health, animals, and plants.

ISPU is categorized as unhealthy if it has a value of 101-200, meaning that air quality is detrimental to living things, both humans, animals, and plants.

The ISPU categorized as very unhealthy has a value range of 201 to 300. If this value exists, the air quality has the potential to increase health risks in a number of segments of the population exposed.

ISPU with a higher value than 300 means that the existing level of air quality has the potential to cause quite serious health in living things and needs to be handled quickly.

There are many ways that people who want to monitor the appropriate and accurate air quality conditions, one of which is through the ISPU Net application. The Android-based application was launched by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

In addition to air quality, ISPU Net also displays other data, such as parameter critical values, air humidity values, air temperature, air pressure, and parameter graphs. With this application, the public can get information from home so that preventive efforts to maintain health when outside the home can be carried out.
