Sudirman Said Calls Anies Baswedan Welcomes BEM UI Invitation

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, Sudirman Said, said Anies welcomed an invitation from the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board to discuss and compete over the idea of national development.

"Pak Anies did not hesitate to immediately agree to attend UI, exchange ideas with students, debate ideas about how Indonesia would be better in the future," said Sudirman Said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 25.

Sudirman also said that Anies really understands the role and contribution of the world of education, especially universities, to the life of the nation and state.

"Pak Anies is very close to the world of education, even he is a representative of a teacher. Pak Anies really understands that universities are the right places where ideas for the sake of a better country can continue to be balanced," he said.

Sudirman also said that Anies strongly supports students to continue to be involved in the development of this country.

"As an educator, Anies certainly also wants to see his students continue to play a role in developing this country so that Mr. Anies really welcomes the invitation from BEM UI for all presidential candidates," he said.

Previously, the Constitutional Court decided where education could be used for the election campaign. The decision made BEM UI invite the three presidential candidates to come to UI.

In the open invitation, the discussion and complaint about the idea of national development is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Balairung UI, Depok.

Three hours after the news about the BEM UI invitation appeared in the media, Anies Baswedan, who will be the presidential candidate from the Coalition for Change for Unity (KPP), immediately responded via his Twitter account by writing: "How come?"

On his Instagram account, Anies Baswedan also said that he was ready to come to UI by writing "Ready to accept invitations."
