The Regency Government In DIY Has Agreed To Fulfill Food Adequacy Of 35 Thousand Hectares

BANTUL - Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X stated that the DIY Regional Government and all provincial governments agreed to fulfill food adequacy by providing agricultural land for food crops covering an area of 35 thousand hectares.

"We and all regencies have agreed to fulfill food adequacy, there is an area based on the Regent's Decree (Decision Certificate) that has a minimum contract of 35 thousand hectares for food crops, for regional food adequacy," said Sultan in Yogyakarta as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 25.

Sultan said that 35 thousand hectares of agricultural land throughout DIY should not be reduced, even if there are land owners who want to sell to other parties, but the contract for food adequacy is allowed, but the contract must still be completed.

"So those who will buy will continue to plant food adequacy, but previously there must be a recommendation from the Regent, for example one hectare is purchased by another person, the Regent must first look for a replacement, before there can be no transactions," he said.

Thus, said the Governor of Yogyakarta, the regional food adequacy from the provision of 35 thousand hectares of agricultural land will not be reduced. The area can be located on rainsheds and irrigation areas, so far what is planted is rice.

"Where for now, per year, it does not mean that outside of 35 thousand hectares, no one grows rice, there is planting, but the need that must contract with the provinces and districts is 35 thousand hectares, it must be food crops," he said.

Sultan said that from the 35 thousand hectare agricultural land, at least DIY could produce 980 thousand tons of rice per year, but what the people of the DIY area consumed alone was approximately 670 thousand tons.

"It means that others have left Yogyakarta, so we hope that this plant also has a high price product value, so I hope that at least 10 years and 35 thousand hectares of Yogyakarta can be extended, there will be no shortage of food adequacy," he said.

Sultan hopes that the village in its current condition will continue to implement it, especially since there are food barns that can also be filled by the community itself for the food needs of the community per support.

"My hope is that this can also be done by the community in the elderly to become a barn. This really works well, so that we can be independent in food adequacy and improve welfare for the community," he said.
