Becoming A Candidate, Karawang Regent Cellica Nurrachadiana Resigns
KARAWANG - The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of Karawang Regency, West Java, said that the Regent of Karawang Cellica Nurrachadiana had submitted his resignation in May 2023 since registering as a candidate for legislative candidate for the DPR.
"In accordance with KPU Regulation Number 10 of 2023, prospective legislative candidates with regional heads must submit a decision to dismiss themselves when submitting candidates (legislative)," said Head of Bawaslu Karawang, Engkus Kusnadi, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 21.
He said, in Article 14 of KPU Regulation Number 10 of 2023, the decision letter for the dismissal or resignation letter submitted must have been submitted maximally at the end of the funeral period for the permanent candidate list (DCT).
Cellica's resignation letter has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).
Now Cellica is reportedly still waiting for the answer to meet the requirements for her dismissal.
In the list of interim candidates (DCS), Cellica Nurrachadiana is listed as a baulaleg of the Democratic Party for the West Java VII (Bekasi, Karawang and Purwakarta) electoral districts.
Meanwhile, along with the resignation of the regent, Deputy Regent of Karawang, Aep Syaepuloh, ready to be the regent's executor.
"Indeed, the government period in Karawang has not ended this year. So if the regent resigns, the deputy will replace him. That is in accordance with existing laws and regulations. We just follow the rules," said Aep.

According to him, the periodization of the Regents of Karawang Cellica Nurrachadiana and Aep Syaepuloh will end in 2026.
For this matter, in the West Java Governor's proposal, Karawang was not included in the proposed regent's acting party because the period had not yet been completed.
"Indeed, the period has not been completed until 2024, if the regent resigns, the deputy regent will still be there," he said.
