July Trade Balance Surplus 1.31 Billion Dollars, 39-Month-Record Continues
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's trade balance in July 2023 was USD 1.31 billion.
Plt. BPS head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that this figure had fallen slightly compared to June 2023, which had a surplus of USD 3.45 billion.
"This result extends the surplus trend for 39 consecutive months since May 2022," he said at a press conference on Tuesday, August 15.
Amalia explained last month's surplus was formed from a larger export value of USD 20.88 billion compared to USD 19.57 billion of imports.
In detail, Amalia explained that exports rose 1.36 percent month to month (mtm) compared to exports in June 2023. Compared to July 2022 year on year (yoy), export values fell by 18.03 percent.
"Cumulatively, Indonesia's export value from January to July 2023 reached US$149.53 billion, down 10.27 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas exports reached USD 140.47 billion, down 10.76 percent, he said.

Meanwhile for imports, it rose 14.10 percent mtm compared to June 2023 or decreased 8.32 percent yoy compared to July 2022. It was stated that oil and gas imports in July 2023 were valued at USD 3.13 billion, up 40.94 percent compared to June 2023 or down 29, 70 percent compared to July 2022.
Then, non-oil and gas imports in July 2023 were valued at USD 16.44 billion, up 10.10 percent compared to June 2023 or down 2.69 percent compared to July 2022.
"The three largest suppliers of non-oil and gas imported goods during January-July 2023 are China USD 35.53 billion (32.74 percent), Japan USD 9.65 billion (8.89 percent), and Thailand USD 6.16 billion (5.68 percent). Then, non-oil and gas imports from ASEAN were USD 17.89 billion (16.49 percent) and the European Union USD 8.44 billion (7.77 percent)," he said.
