Students Of SMAN 10 Surabaya Win Gold Medal At The World Innovation Creativity Olympic South Korea
SURABAYA - Five students of SMAN 10 Surabaya Moonieque Angelina, Indratama Anindya, Shafa happened, Reyhan Muhammad, and Bagus Novansyah won gold medals at the 2023 World Innovation Creativity Olympic (WICO) in Seoul, South Korea.
The three won gold medals in the category of scientific innovation entitled Music Incubator to produce Advanced Probiotics and the Speed of Cassava Fermentation with Javanese Gending Music (MICATO) and get rid of thousands of participants from 27 countries, such as South Korea, the United States, Vietnam, Cambodia, Taiwan, and Canada.
"Our research is to find out the effectiveness of music to accelerate the rate of fermentation in cassava or tapai," said Angelina in Surabaya as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 2.
He and his team used four types of music to test the acceleration of the fermentation rate, including jazz, rock, classical, and Javanese gending.
"Java's gending music is the most effective for the growth of lactobacillus bacteria. The fermentation results are also better, which is 7.0-7.9 million compared to the unstimulated 5.6-7.6 million bacteria," said Angelina.
The types of probiotics produced are good bacteria to help improve the immune system and anti-inflammatory in the digestive system.
"After the COVID-19 pandemic, partially decreased endurance, so probiotics were needed to increase it," he said.
The fermented rate in general, said Angelina, takes 72 hours. With Javanese gending music can speed it up for 24 hours, even more probiotic numbers.
"We researched at the usual frequency, from 500-1,500hz the fastest. Then the music was researched, it turned out to be more suitable for gending, let alone rarely explored by people, even though it was good," he said.
The probiotics produced with the tools made by the four students have become a sachet packaging product. The product can be consumed with a mixture of bananas.
While participating in the international competition, they have sold it for 1,000 Won or the equivalent of Rp. 12 thousand.
In addition to the four students, SMAN 10 Surabaya also has other students who excel at WICO 2023 with the silver medal in the Life Science category with the innovation of Avocado Seed Kernel as Mosquito Repellent with Aerosol Free Mechanism Support (Avseel)
The very positive work apparently lacks support from the industry, even though the research conducted has the opportunity to be developed.
The head of SMAN 10 Surabaya, Budi Santoso, as well as the supervisor of Micato and Avsel, revealed that while participating in WICO 2023, many participant research from other countries was accompanied by industry or entrepreneurs.
"Support from industry and entrepreneurs is important. They should look at the work of children who have been validated at the international level," he said.

Most surprising when at WICO, two student innovation tools were offered by a South Korean professor. However, Budi did not dare to let go on the grounds of moral responsibility and nationalism.
"There are things we need to develop again," he said.
Budi hopes that in the future many industries and entrepreneurs will be willing to provide student research funding to be developed into technology or robotics.
This is because Indonesia is still inferior to the sophistication of technology and robotics used by several countries such as Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
"To get there requires a lot of money, but our work is not inferior. Hopefully more (industry) parties will look at the work of students," he said.
