Loss In 2022, Lotus Threatened To Lose Hundreds Of Workers
The return of several old manufacturers has made competition in the automotive industry even more colorful.
Several examples of old car manufacturers who have returned to show their existence, namely Lotus Cars.
Since most of it was taken over by Zhengjiang Geely Holding Group (Generally) in 2017, Lotus has again stepped on its tires in competing with several manufacturers from the US, Japan, or even from their country, England.
After the takeover was carried out by Geely, Lotus liked to release various models with attractive designs and performances. Some of them are Lotus Evija as a hypercar EV, then there is Lotus Emira, and a high-performance SUV, Lotus Eletre.
Like other manufacturers, Lotus is also committed to assembling electric vehicles in the future by presenting three models. Although Lotus' return was quite successful, this contradicts his financial statements last year.
Quoted from Top Gear, Thursday, July 20, it was reported that Lotus lost a figure of up to 145 million pounds or around Rp. 2.8 trillion during 2022.
According to the financial statements submitted by Companies House, in 12 months only 567 units were sold.
This is a drastic drop of up to 62 percent of retail sales in 2021 which reached 1,566 units.
This figure arises due to problems with production and supply chain in the second half of 2022. However, Lotus is optimistic that it will reach a new record for 2023.
Due to the loss, hundreds of Lotus employees were under threat, so they tried to make changes back to their workforce system.
"The Lotus Cars proposal for its business reorganization is to ensure that the right organizational structure is available to us to achieve our business goals and to build a strong and sustainable future," said a representative of Lotus Cars.
However, Lotus is currently working to support the transfer of staff and plans to find ways to maintain skills and special knowledge in business.

This is done to ensure Lotus has a slimmer organizational structure and can compete with other manufacturers for the long term.
Apart from that, currently Lotus can only depend on the Eletre and Emira models so that the manufacturer's finances can run stably.
Meanwhile, the Evija model has not yet been produced. This is very unfortunate, especially since Lotus stopped the production of sports cars, such asturbations, Exige, and Evora two years ago.
