Former Manchester City Defender Benjamin Mendy Joins Lorient

JAKARTA - Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy joined Ligue 1 club or French League Lorient with a contract duration of two years, as reported by the club's official website, Wednesday, July 19."After fulfilling a traditional medical examination, Benjamin Mendy - 2018 world champion, four-time Premier League winner under the colors of Manchester City, and French Ligue 1 champion with Monaco - came to strengthen Lorient's squad for this new season," wrote Lorient.The French defender's contract with Manchester City expired in June and was not renewed by the club.Previously, Mendy, who was charged with one rape case and one counts of attempted rape, was found not guilty by the Judge Chester Crown Court in early July.The former US defender Monaco was also acquitted of six counts of rape at his first trial in January.In 2017, Mendy broke the record as the most expensive defender in the world when The Citizens brought in from AS Monaco for 52 million.Together with Manchester City, Mendy has made 50 appearances and scored two goals in all competitions.Mendy last played in the field in August 2021 when Manchester City met Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.The 29-year-old has a chance to play again when Lorient tries Bournemouth in a pre-season event, August 5.
