Regarding The Allegation That 34 Million Indonesian Passport Data Were Leaked, The Director General Of Immigration: Biometric Data Is Safe
JAKARTA - Director General (Dirjen) of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) Silmy Karim ensured that the biometric data of 34 million passports belonging to Indonesian citizens (WNI) was safe following the alleged data leak
"It has been confirmed that biometric data is safe," he said when contacted, Friday, July 7, was confiscated by Antara.
He said an investigation was currently underway regarding the alleged leak of the 34 million passport data belonging to the Indonesian citizen.
He also asked the public not to panic and wait for the results of the investigation from a joint team from the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo), the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).
"The leaked passport data by hackers is just a guess. Kominfo, BSSN, and Immigration are investigating the truth," he said.
Silmy informed that the joint team will work for 14 working days. The most important information he has obtained is the security of biometric data belonging to passport holders.
"And it has been checked in 2023, no one has succeeded in breaking into the Immigration database," said Silmy.
Previously, BSSN revealed that his party together with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights were currently still in the process of assisting in handling incidents for alleged passport data leaks of 34 million belonging to Indonesian citizens.
This is part of the coordination that has been carried out by BSSN with related parties including the National Data Center team of the Ministry of Communication and Information, the Directorate of Government Information Application Service (LAIP) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, CSIRT Kemenkumham, Pusdatin Kemenkumham, and the Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
"Until now, the BSSN technical team together with the technical team of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights are assisting in handling incidents, validation and investigations of the alleged incidents of leakage of Indonesian citizens' passport data," said BSSN spokesman Ariandi Putra in his statement.

In addition to data investigations, BSSN and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights also carry out several risk mitigation measures so that existing data is maintained and does not interfere with related services.
In addition, BSSN appeals to Electronic System Operators (PSE) and other related ecosystems to be able to improve the security of their personal data so as not to be infected with cyber crime.
