STLA Medium Platform Officially Introduced, Promises EV Flexibility And Driving Efficiency
JAKARTA - Stellantis, a multi-national automotive company, officially announced the latest generation platform to be used in their latest electric vehicle line, the STLA Medium.
The platform offers a combination of far range power, driving flexibility, energy usage efficiency, and charging power. According to claims from manufacturers, STLA Medium can provide up to 700 km of range for cars.
STLA Medium will be used on segment-C cars and segment-D, which previously accounted for nearly half of total sales of 78.5 million global vehicles by 2022.
Stellantis currently offers 26 vehicle models in the segment with various platforms. The plan, in the future, they hope to build as many as two million vehicles using STLA Medium for some of their models around the world.
Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares, explained that the STLA Medium has been developed with the aim of creating convenience in driving, producing zero carbon emissions, and becoming more affordable. The investment made by Stellantis until 2025 supports the development of this platform.
"The STLA Medium platform demonstrates the strength of Stellantis' global technical community by presenting products that are very focused on our customers and changing the assumptions that have long been held in the transportation industry as we move towards zero carbon emissions by 2038," Tavares said in an official statement on Wednesday, July 5.
The platform is targeted for use in SUV models and passenger cars from Stellantis brands, including Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Peugeot, Citroen, and others. The STLA Medium can also be compatible with vehicles with lengths ranging from 4,300 mm to 4,900 mm, wheelbase between 2,300 mm to 2,900 mm, and a higher ground clearance of 220 mm.
This means Stellantis has created a lighter platform and provides a better driving style than the previous platform, namely PSA and FCA.
In addition to being able to provide a range of up to 700 km, this architecture can also work with batteries with a capacity of more than 98 kWh, thereby increasing the level of efficiency in models that use STLA Medium with a consumption of 14 kWh/100 km.
With its flexibility, the Medium STLA can be used on vehicles with front wheels and all wheels driving, with electric motors placed on the back with power ranging from 217 to 523 dk.

STLA Medium will be used on several models under Stellantis umbrella, including Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall Grandland. With impressive sizes and efficiency, the platform is also compatible with vehicles such as Citroen C5 Aircross, DS 7, and Peugeot 508.
The platform is designed to be able to adapt to the development of chemicals in future batteries, including those using nickel and cobalt-free raw materials, as well as solid-state battery technology. This allows Stellantis brands to optimize the balance between vehicle costs and performance.
