Aftershocks After The M 6.0 Yogyakarta Earthquake Its Strength Is Weaker

Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati said the aftershocks that occurred after a 6.4 magnitude tectonic earthquake in the Indian Ocean south of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), had weaker strength.

"Earlier, 47 afterlandan earthquakes may still be added, but conditions are getting more stable, less frequent aftershocks and weaker strength," said Dwikorita after visiting the earthquake-affected location in Bantul Regency, DIY, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, July 1.

Aftershocks after the 6.4 magnitude earthquake were then updated to a magnitude of 6.0 whose epicenter was located at coordinates 8.63 South Latitude, 110.08 East Longitude, or at sea at a distance of 81 kilometers south of Wates City, DIY at a depth of 67 kilometers, the shock was not felt by humans.

"So there was no aftershock at all, only tools were recorded," he said.

Dwikorita also said that the damage caused by the earthquake experienced in the DIY area followed the pattern of local conditions. As happened in the Bangen Hamlet, Bangunjiwo Village, Bantul, because of its location in the high area.

"We also do mapping following the pattern of local conditions, either the condition of the land or like here is the condition at the height, so it is not evenly distributed, just following the pattern," he said.

The BMKG also mapped the impact of the earthquake and there were damaged zones along the deposits of the Opak River and the Oya River that crossed the DIY and Bantul Regencies.

"Only those that are lightly damaged, similar to this (lightly damaged houses). Then there is also a kind of valley where there is damage," he said.
