Guarantee Availability Of Sacrificial Animals, Ministry Of Transportation Sends 550 Cows To Jakarta
The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation sent 550 cows from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) using a special ship for KM Camara Nusantara 1 livestock with the aim of the Tanjung Priok unloading port, Jakarta.
KM Camara Nusantara 1 operated by PT. PELNI (Persero) is a Special Livestock Transportation with the RT-1 Trayek with the Kupang-Wayapu-Tanjung Priok/Patimban-Kupang service route.
Head of Sub-Directorate for Domestic Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Capt Hasan Sadili said the shipment of livestock was in order to meet the needs of the availability of sacrificial cattle and meat ahead of Eid al-Adha 1444 H, especially in the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings.
He said the government was committed to being able to expand livestock-specific transportation services so that livestock distribution could spread evenly throughout the region.
"The operation of special livestock vessels aims to ensure the continuity of livestock distribution through sea transportation with a fixed and regular schedule," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, June 20.
The Livestock Sea Toll Program which is one of the government's programs in cooperation between the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Agriculture in order to support the national self-sufficiency policy of beef and buffalo.
According to Hasan, special livestock ships are built with special shapes and designs for livestock transportation facilities by taking into account the rules of animal welfare (animal welfare) and equipped with medical personnel (doctors and animal mantri). Thus, the health conditions and welfare of livestock during shipping can be maintained.
"I invite all parties to collaborate to optimize the implementation of the obligation to provide special livestock transportation public services not only in time before Eid al-Adha but throughout 2023," he said.
"As well as being able to use a special animal ship to transport back cargo from the unloading port, because this special animal ship also has a loading space with a capacity of 150 tons," he continued.
Hasan hopes that the release of KM. Camara Nusantara 1 can be a spirit for all parties in the success of the Livestock Sea Toll program in 2023.
"Thank you to all parties who have supported the implementation of this activity, especially for all stakeholders who have utilized special livestock ships that have been prepared by the Government," he said.
For information, the Livestock Sea Toll Program has been implemented since 2015 where each year it continues to record an increase in terms of the number of routes served and the number of cargo transported.
In 2022, the Government through the Ministry of Transportation has organized 6 special animal ship trayeks and a total of 42,398 livestock transported cargo.
