Police Secure Three Prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers To Be Used As Online Gambling Admins

JAKARTA - The Sector Police (Polsek) of the Port Area, Barelang Police (Batam, Rempang, and Galang), have secured three prospective non-procedural Indonesian migrant workers (PMI). Where they will be employed as online gambling admins in Cambodia and arrest one suspect.

Kapolsek Pelabuhan Iptu Jaya Tarigan mengatakan ketiga orang calon PMI nonprocedural itu diamankan di Pelabuhan Internasional Harbor Bay, Kota Batam pada 13 Juni 2023.

"Officers secured three PMI candidates who would be employed as online gambling admins in Cambodia when they were going through Harbour Bay International Port and named one person as a suspect with the initials PH (30 Years)," Jaya said in Batam, Riau Islands, quoting Antara.

He mentioned that the three PMI candidates came from Medan City, North Sumatra. They were arrested after the refusal to go abroad by immigration officers at the port.

With the report, he explained, the police immediately arrested the three people and carried out further investigations.

From the statements of the three non-procedural PMI candidates, he explained, it is known that they plan to leave for Cambodia through Singapore and will work as an online gambling admin with the help of someone with the initials PH who is currently a suspect.

"So they admitted that they would be dispatched to the country to Cambodia and were promised to work as an online gambling admin with a salary of 800 US dollars per month," he said.

From the results of the examination of the suspect PH, he admitted that he helped facilitate the departure of non-procedural PMI candidates to Singapore through Harbour Bay International Port.

For his actions, PH is subject to Article 81 and/or Article 83 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers as amended in Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation.
