Bawaslu Did Not Find The West Sumatra KPU Playership Regarding Registration For Garuda Party Candidates

The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of West Sumatra Province (West Sumatra) has decided that the General Election Commission (KPU) of West Sumatra has not committed any violations related to the registration of prospective legislative candidates from the Garuda Party for the 2024 General Election.

"We have read out the verdict openly which states that related to this alleged violation, there is no evidence of an alleged violation," said West Sumatra Bawaslu Chairman Alni in Padang, Tuesday, June 13, as reported by Antara.

The decision from the West Sumatra Bawaslu followed up on reports of alleged violations submitted by the Garuda Party. The report has been processed and the allegations reported are administrative violations.

"So we have carried out the trial mechanism openly, we have been doing it since May and today we have decided on the alleged violation," he said.

Alni explained that the report submitted by the reporter regarding the Garuda Party was not accepted by the complaint process for the requirements of the leg.

"We prove this in court, whether there really was an alleged violation of procedures, mechanisms or procedures carried out by the reported party, namely whether the KPU was true or not. In this trial it was proven that the KPU did not commit any alleged violations," he said.

He added that until now the West Sumatra Bawaslu has only handled one report on the alleged administration, but in some areas there have also been handling reports of almost the same alleged violations, namely in Limapuluh Kota Regency and Pasaman Regency.

He admitted that in the election stage there is a potential for violations and Bawaslu will follow up on reports of violations according to their authority.

In Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, several Bawaslu authorities are explained in handling violations, including election criminal violations, election administration violations, and violations of the election code of ethics.

"So, other violations of laws and regulations, such as ASN neutrality, we process, but we only recommend to relevant agencies or institutions to be followed up," he said.

Previously, the West Sumatra KPU stated that the Garuda Party did not register prospective legislative candidates in 16 districts/cities.

"Apart from the West Sumatra KPU, the Garuda Party has also not registered balaleg in 16 cities and districts in West Sumatra," said West Sumatra KPU Technical Subdivision Head Rahman Al Amin.

According to him, the Garuda Party only registered with the Padang KPU, Mentawai Islands KPU, and Limapuluh Kota Regency.
