Police Arrest PNG Residents Smuggling 8.7 Kilograms Of Marijuana In Jayapura
JAYAPURA - Jayapura City Police, Papua, arrested a man with the initials IW (39 years), a Papuan Nugini (PNG) citizen for smuggling 8.7 kilograms of marijuana.
Jayapura City Police Chief Kombes Viktor Mackbon said IW, who came from Kubalya Vanimo Village, PNG, was arrested by the police on Monday (22.5) in the Doc IX area of North Jayapura District.
The arrest began with public information regarding the whereabouts of PNG citizens who were suspected of carrying marijuana and the police immediately studied the information.
Suspect IW was arrested at a boarding house and police found marijuana packaged in 182 plastic packs of various sizes.
In addition, the police also confiscated four motorbikes suspected of being chartered with marijuana.
"From the suspect's confession, the marijuana was brought by motorboat," said Mackbon.

So far, the Jayapura City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit has handled 19 drug abuse cases by arresting 24 suspects along with 24 kilograms of marijuana as evidence.
"The suspect IW is subject to Article 111 Paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with the threat of life imprisonment or imprisonment for a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years," explained Grand Commissioner Victor Mackbon.
