Shopping Time Bestie! Shopping Trends Rise Ahead Of Eid Al-Fitr
JAKARTA PT Bank Mandiri Tbk. found that there was an increase in shopping trend ahead of the Eid al-Fitr 2023 celebration. This was conveyed by the Head of Mandiri Institute, Teguh Yudo Wicaksono.
According to him, the Mandiri Lending Index (MSI) where the shopping value index at the end of March 2023 reached 136.4 or was the highest since the beginning of this year.
"Tren kenaikan belanja berlangsung sejak akhir Februari dan mengalami akselerasi seiring dimulainya bulan Ramadan di akhir Maret," ujar dia dalam keterangan pers hari ini Rabu, 12 April.
According to Teguh, the abolition of restrictions on community mobility (PPKM) since early 2023 has driven increased community activities, including economic activity.
"However, in general, the level of public spending in the first quarter is still relatively restrained due to the increase in inflation rate in early 2023. In some areas, MSI recorded a decrease in spending volume," he said.
Teguh explained, such as the pattern in previous years, the level of spending increased from one month before Ramadan to the period of Eid homecoming and holidays.
He said, ahead of Ramadan this year the average spending rate grew 4 percent compared to the same period last year.
"Along with the estimated homecoming activity to be more massive this year, public spending is expected to increase significantly ahead of Eid," he said.
Teguh added that shopping in supermarkets, restaurants, department stores, or fashion-related items tended to increase significantly throughout March.
In addition to consumer goods, mobility-related spending has also increased, both in the short-term and medium-term trends. Shopping for some derivative items such as household appliances and electronic goods has also been recorded to increase.
"Maintaining the inflation rate is important to maintain the momentum of spending and people's purchasing power as a whole," he concluded.
