Refusing To Be Embarrassed, A Couple Of Students In Garut Buy Drugs Of IDR 3 Million To Get Rid Of 6 Months Pregnancy

GARUT - The Garut Police managed to arrest a student couple for having an abortion when they were six months pregnant. This disgraceful act was committed in a rented room, Tarogong Kaler District, Garut Regency, West Java.

"The perpetrators are students, both are students of a tertiary institution in Garut," said Garut Police Chief AKBP Rio Wahyu Anggoro during a press conference exposing the case in Garut, Antara, Thursday, March 16.

The male suspect with the initials AD (23) and the female suspect with the initials NA (20) are residents of Garut who were arrested after the police conducted an investigation regarding reports of finding a baby's body on March 7, 2023.

Initially, said the police chief, the abortion case was revealed from the reports of the two suspects who had found a baby in the Tutugan Leles area, Leles District. Then the suspect made a report to the Leles Police.

However, in the results of the examination, there are irregularities. Turns out the report was fake. Both admitted that the baby they found was their aborted baby.

"The results of the investigation found other facts that allegedly the perpetrator had an abortion, then we investigated and it was true, the perpetrator did it," said the police chief.

He revealed the confessions of the two suspects having an abortion because they were ashamed of their families when they were pregnant out of wedlock and were still students.

Then they looked for drugs for abortion on the online market, then bought them at a price of IDR 3 million, after which the female suspect took the drug.

The impact of taking the drug was that the perpetrator suffered a miscarriage at the age of six months in the womb, and gave birth alone with the help of her boyfriend in a rented house.

The suspect brought the baby she had delivered to the health center and then to the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Dr. Slamet Garut to confirm the condition of the baby, which turned out to be dead.

Furthermore, the suspect made a false report as if she found a newborn baby on the side of the road in the Tutugan Leles area, so that the abortion case was finally revealed.

"The two suspects who were dating admitted their actions and regretted it, now we have detained the suspect to be handed over to the Attorney General's Office," he said.

As a result of their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 76c in conjunction with Article 80 paragraph 3 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection and/or Article 7c in conjunction with Article 80 paragraph 3 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17 of 2016 concerning Child Protection with a penalty of seven years prison.
