YOGYAKARTA Constitutional Justice Saldi Isra was elected Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) for the term of office 2023-2028.
Saldi was elected through an open voting mechanism at the Constitutional Court building. He bagged five votes, ahead of Judge Daniel Yusmic Foekh who got three votes. One judge of the constitution abstained in the vice-chairman of the Constitutional Court's vote.
Thus, Saldi Isra is legally accompanying Anwar Usman who was re-elected as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court for the period 2023-2028.

Before being inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as a constitutional judge on April 11, 2017, Saldi Isra was known as an expert in constitutional law and professor at Andalas University, Padang.
However, who would have thought that Saldi's in-laws started as a coincidence. After repeatedly attending the UMPTN, Saldi was accepted at the Faculty of Law, Andalas University, a department he never thought about at all.
However, the man who was born in Paninggahan, Solok, West Sumatra on August 20, 1968, was quick to complete his undergraduate education with the title of summa cumlaude in 1995.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Law, Saldi, who graduated from the best, immediately became a lecturer at Bung Hatta University until October 1995 before finally moving to Andalas University, Padang.
For 22 years, Saldi served at Andalas University while completing postgraduate education. In 2001, Saldi received a Master of Public Administration from Malaya University, Malaysia.
Next, in 2009, he successfully completed his Doctoral education at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta with the title Cum Laude.
A year later, he was confirmed as Professor of Constitutional Law at Andalas University.

In 2017, Saldi followed the selection of constitutional judges opened by President Jokowi. At that time, one seat of constitutional judges was vacant because Judge Patrialis Akbar was caught in a bribery case within the Constitutional Court.
In the selection, Saldi managed to set aside two other candidates for judges, namely lecturer at Nusa Cendana University, Bernard L Tanya and former Director General of Law and Law of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Wicipto Setiadi.
Next, Saldi was appointed by President Jokowi as a constitutional judge on April 11, 2017 at the State Palace, Jakarta.
Now, Saldi has been elected as Deputy Chair of the Constitutional Court accompanying Anwar Usman who was elected as chairman. Previously, the position of Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court was vacant since November 2022 because former constitutional judge Aswanto was unilaterally removed by the DPR RI.
