East Kalimantan Governor: IKN Was Built In A Production Forest And Will Be Filled With Endemic Tree In Kalimantan
SAMARINDA - Governor of East Kalimantan (Kaltim), Isran Noor, clarified that the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) will not be built in natural forests or protected forests, but in the production forest. According to him, this is done so that development does not damage the environment as feared by environmentalists.
Isran explained that the construction of IKN will focus on returning to natural forests. There are 20 million endemic tree seedlings that have been prepared at the Mentawir Modern Nursery around IKN. This nursery focuses on the breeding of Kalimantan endemic plants and certain tree seedlings that are becoming rare in Kalimantan such as iron and others, even the target is to produce 20 million seeds per year.
"The construction of this IKN is actually to return to natural forests, there will be many endemic trees planted, there are even 20 million endemic tree seedlings prepared at the Mentawir Modern Maize around IKN," said Isran in Samarinda, Saturday, March 11.
The seeds that have beenbited will be moved to the IKN area so that there will be polyculture. In the IKN area, which was previously only monoculture, in the future there will be various types of plants, especially endemic plants.
"When we go to IKN, we will interact with nature, there will be many typical Kalimantan plants there, there will be various types of primates that live wild and we can see them like monkeys, defenders, and others because in this development it is to restore it like the previous forest," said Isran, quoted by Antara.
Isran also emphasized that the development of IKN is carried out in a modern and environmentally friendly manner, so there is no need to worry about environmental damage. According to him, when visiting IKN, visitors will interact with nature. There are many typical Kalimantan plants there and various types of primates that live wild such as monkeys, defenders, and others.
The chairman of the Presidium of Hippuni, Akhmad Muqowan, also supports the development of IKN and says that there is nothing to worry about about the transfer of IKN because it has been planned since the time of President Soekarno. According to him, the success of a project depends on a mature plan and implementation in the field.
The Annual Session of the Competent General Assembly which was held in Samarinda and Mulawarman University as the host was one of the supports in the construction of IKN because East Kalimantan had been designated as IKN.
