A Bulgarian Citizen Who Broke An ATM With Crowbar In Madiun Enters A Detention Cell
MADIUN - Officers from the Madiun Police Criminal Investigation Unit detained and named a suspect, AN (28), a Bulgarian citizen for breaking into a BCA automated teller machine (ATM) on Madiun-Nglames Street, Madiun District, Madiun Regency, East Java.
Head of the Madiun Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Danang Eko Abrianto said the results of the investigation into the case revealed that the suspect was able to break into an ATM within 45 minutes and steal up to IDR 258 million.
"In less than 45 minutes, the suspect AN was able to withdraw IDR 258 million from an ATM," said Danang during a press release at the Madiun Police Headquarters, reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 6.
Millions of money were removed from the ATM machine by destroying the ATM machine system. The trick, by hacking the system, the money comes out by itself.
"This crime is referred to as ATM jackpotting," he said.
During the examination, AN denied that he was an ATM breaker. However, the police do not require the suspect's confession.
Police already have a variety of evidence to ensnare the suspect. The evidence included witness statements and evidence such as laptops, cellphones, screwdrivers, steel scissors, iron crowbars, and IDR 23 million in cash. The suspect also carried a sign reading "Sorry the ATM is broken".

As a result of his actions, the suspect AN was charged with Article 46 paragraph 3 of the ITE Law and Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding the alleged theft case with weighting. Based on that article, the suspect is punishable by a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
Regarding the suspicion that AN is a syndicate network with other parties, the police are still investigating. For this reason, the police are still checking the contents of the suspect's cell phone and laptop.
Previously, AN was arrested by Madiun Police and Immigration Office Class II Non-TPI Madiun on suspicion of breaking into an automated teller machine (ATM) owned by a private bank in the local area on 23 February.
AN was named a suspect in the alleged theft case with weighting. The suspect was detained for the purposes of investigation.
