Ship Hit By Wave, 6 Passengers Drowning In Labuan Bajo Successfully Evacuated

The Joint SAR team managed to evacuate six passengers of an inter-island motorcycle taxi with the Messah-Labuan Bajo Island route which had an accident in the waters of Pungu Besar Island, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). "The SAR team evacuated six people safely with details of four passengers and two crew members, who were then evacuated to Messah Labuan Bajo Island, because one ship passenger suffered minor injuries and needed further medical action," said Head of the Maumere Search and Rescue Office (KPP) Mexianus Bekabel, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, March 2. The nameless motorcycle taxi ship was reportedly carrying six passengers from Labuan Bajo to Messah Island, but was hit by a wave at 11.40 WITA. The Joint SAR team consisting of the West Manggarai SAR Post, KSOP Labuan Bajo, Lanal Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Sat Polair immediately evacuated victims.

Mexianus said the victim had arrived at Labuan Bajo ASDP Port safely. "The victim who received minor injuries was taken to the hospital for further action," he said.
