Prevent Expanding To Regions, KPI Will Limit Demonstration SHOWs On Television
JAKARTA - Central Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Commissioner Aswar Hasan said that his party limited the screening of demonstrations to prevent the inspiration of other areas due to the demonstration.
"The first time we served in 2019 there was a case (of riots) in Papua. Indeed, we asked television to reduce it because of the impact, it turned out that there were raids in other cities, raids on Papuan dormitories in other cities," Aswar said in a Hearing Meeting (RDP) of Commission I of the DPR RI with the Central KPI Commissioner, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 6.
KPI considers that the show actually inspires similar things to happen in other areas. He is of the view that demonstration events are facts in certain areas, but should not inspire other regions.
"Still not allowed until it is broadcast for so long, instead it inspires other regions," he said.
He explained that this was actually a concern for the KPI commissioners. He admitted that the Police had called several times because the effect of the live broadcast of the demonstration actually caused a demonstration in other areas.
"So, in other areas when there are reports of burning, tearing down fences, the impact will actually become duplication in other provinces or in other cities," he said.
Therefore, his party held a meeting with the Press Council and asked for an arrangement between the Press Council and KPI regarding the live broadcast of the demonstration.
"We ask that there be arrangements between the Press Council and the KPI regarding the live broadcast of the demonstration. We consider the impact to be even more negative if it is broadcast," said Aswar.
This statement was the answer of the KPI commissioner when asked about the lack of broadcasts regarding events related to demonstrations and demonstrations on television. For KPI, the restriction aims to prevent duplication of events in various other regions.
