3 Indonesian Fishermen Arrested By Malaysian Police, Bintan Police Attempted To Pick Up This Afternoon

KEPRI - Three Indonesian fishermen were arrested by the Malaysian Maritime Police. The fisherman from Teluk Sebong District, Bintan, Riau Islands (Kepri) entered Malaysian waters while trying to catch fish, Friday, February 3.

"Yes, they were secured by the Malaysian Police, because of the information we received, when they caught fish, entered Malaysian waters. That's why they were taken there for interrogation," said Bintan Police Chief AKBP Riky Iswoyo when contacted in Batam, Friday, February 3, confiscated by Antara.

He said, with this incident, his party immediately communicated with the Malaysian side to resolve the incident.

"We have communicated with the Malaysian side there, with the Malaysian Consul General (Konsulat General), only being interrogated for a while due to regional problems," he said.

From the reports he received from residents, it is true that the three people who were detained by the Malaysian Police were fishermen who were looking for fish.

"They are fishermen who use small boats, not large boat fishermen with the size of 2 GT. So there are no other things related to crime," he said.

He said that at this time his party had moved to the location where the three fishermen were handed over for pick-up. "This afternoon is planned to be returned, and we will pick them up. Later, officers from the Bintan Police Polairud will be picked up," he concluded.
